DeliSoil Consortium Meets to Discuss Project Progress and Impact Goals

The DeliSoil consortium convened for a two-day virtual meeting on 30-31 October, bringing together key project stakeholders, partners, and guest participants to review progress, share insights, and strategise on the path forward for soil health and sustainability initiatives. Led by coordinator Ansa Palojärvi from Luke, the meeting included updates from each work package (WP) and a deep dive into ongoing Living Lab activities.

Day 1 Progress Across Work Packages

The first day featured “food for thought” presentations from each work package leader. Daniel Cantabella Velazquez (UVic-UCC) opened with insights from WP1 on managing residues, followed by Annamaria Bevivino (ENEA) on soil health and Ronald Farrar (PROMAN) covering enabling conditions. Environmental perspectives, including shotgun sequencing by ULE, were highlighted by Tapio Salo (Luke) and colleagues. The day concluded with an overview of WP6 dissemination and communications by Pamela Cardillo from ERINN, emphasising efforts to maximise project impact through effective project outreach.

Key guest contributions included greetings from the BENCHMARKS and Waste4Soil projects, underscoring DeliSoil’s shared mission to improve soil sustainability through collaboration across Europe and particularly with EU Mission Soil projects.

Day 2 Impact and Brainstorming

On the second day, discussions shifted towards the future, exploring ways to optimise DeliSoil’s impact. Project partners used interactive tools like Mentimeter and breakout sessions to facilitate discussions on project objectives and impact pathways. Presentations from early-career researchers provided fresh perspectives on soil quality and valorization of food waste, further enriching discussions on sustainable soil health practices. The session closed with a presentation from The European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL), allowing partners to learn more about Living Lab methodologies, exchange best practices and identify actionable next steps.
