The national Soil Science Society in Finland organises Soil Science Days every second year. This year had an inspiring start with the Soil Science Days in taking place from January 7th – 8th 2025. The topic was ‘Healthy soil as a provider of ecosystem services’.

EU Mission Soil was well represented by local Mission Soil Mirror Group members including representatives from Ministries and Mission Soil Board. Project coordinator Ansa Palojärvi gave an oral presentation on the DeliSoil project. Along with DeliSoil, several other Mission Soil projects were introduced including SOLO and Benchmarks.

All DeliSoil partners in Finland were represented at the Soil Science Days: Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), Pyhäjärvi Institute, and Finnish Food Authority. The scientific content of the days emphasised the importance of biological aspects in healthy and resilient soils, as well as the role of boreal soils in carbon sequestration.
