Developments in the Italian PhD Research on Food Science Technology and Biotechnology
From Wednesday 18 to Friday 20 September, the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the University of Catania hosted the ‘28th Workshop on the Developments in the Italian PhD Research on Food Science Technology and Biotechnology’ that took place at Palazzo della Cultura ex convento Platamone, via Vittorio Emanuele II. The event, in its 28th edition, is the annual opportunity for PhD students from all Italian PhD schools in the field of Food Science and Technology to meet and compare notes. It was organised by the National Group of PhD Coordinators and the societies: SISTAL (Italian Society of Food Science and Technology), SISS (Italian Society of Sensory Science) and SIMTREA (Italian Society of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Microbiology).
Approximately 400 researchers participated, including 268 PhD students, through oral or poster presentations, showing the results obtained during their research work.
The workshop was organized in a series of parallel sessions for oral communications, plenary lessons, a poster session and a final plenary session with testimonials from industries.
ENEA attended the workshop with the participation of Arianna Bindo (PhD student) and Manuela Costanzo (ENEA researcher). The activity of PhD within the WP2 of DELISOIL project – Delivering, safe, sustainable, tailored & socially accepted soil improvers from circular food production processes for boosting soil health), coordinated by Annamaria Bevivino (Division Sustainable Agri-Food System) https://agrifood.sostenibilita.enea.it/projects/delisoil” target=”_blank” has been presented. This workshop brought together leading researchers to discuss the future of food science, and ENEA was proud to contribute to this important dialogue.
The poster entitled “Characterization of Soil Health Indicators and Soil Microbiome Analysis When Treated with Combined Use of Food Processing Residues and Microbial Biofertilizers” was presented by Arianna Bindo (PhD student). The poster showed the innovative work aimed at improving soil health through sustainable practices in food production, as for example utilization of biofertilizers and microbial inoculants like sustainable alternatives to conventional chemical fertilizers.
