DeliSoil presented at 188th EAAE Seminar

12 – 13 September, 2024
Location: Chania, Crete, Greece

DELISOIL was recently presented at the seminar “Reorienting Agri-Food Chains to Hinder Climate Change and Food Security Threats” [link : http://188eaae.maich.gr/en/], held from September 12 to 13, 2024, at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, CIHEAM MAI, Chania, Greece.

The 188th European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) seminar recently hosted a key presentation by PhD researcher Lorenzo Nolfi of the University of Tuscia, supported by ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy, and Sustainable Economic Development) mentors Annamaria Bevivino and Luciana Di Gregorio. Nolfi’s presentation, titled “The Role of Soil Microbiological Indicators in Enhancing Agricultural Sustainability and Climate Resilience,” highlighted groundbreaking work from Task 2.1 of DeliSoil project, focusing on data mining techniques to assess the impact of soil improvers on soil health.

Nolfi’s findings addressed how specific soil microbiological indicators can serve as benchmarks for the effectiveness of soil health interventions, which are vital in adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change. This work aligns closely with the goals of the EAAE seminar, which this year centered on reinforcing food systems to safeguard global food security amid the growing challenges posed by climate change.

Held in support of the European Green Deal, the seminar explored policy measures to promote biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, and efficient food distribution, with a particular focus on creating resilient and adaptive food supply chains in the global agri-food sector. The event served as a platform for academics, researchers, and business leaders to exchange innovative ideas and strategies for building robust food systems, welcoming both empirical and methodological research contributions.

As part of the congress outcomes, selected research papers, including those presented by Nolfi, will be published in a multi-author volume. This publication will delve into topics such as emerging food system challenges, the adaptability of agricultural practices to climate pressures, and the transformative role of IT technologies in fostering biodiversity.

The 188th EAAE seminar’s agenda reflects a critical response to climate risks, as well as an aspiration to build resilient, sustainable, and efficient food systems through collaboration across the global agri-food sector.
